In 1977, at age 20, Lavern learned the nuts and bolts of real estate. Because she loves a challenge, she jumped at the opportunity to participate in an 18 month on-the-job training program with Savannah Landmark Rehabilitation Project, whose mission was to restore many of the deteriorating Victorian homes in Savannah's Historical District in conjunction with President Jimmy Carter and First Lady, Roselyn Carter who were catalysts for the development of Habitat For Humanity. She relocated to Atlanta in 1995 and worked as Executive Assistant at two large Real Estate firms before realizing her long-time dream of receiving her license in 1996. Her quest for knowledge of the industry led her to work with REO institutions to gain knowledge of the foreclosure industry. Shortly after, she became a member of The Georgia Real Estate Investors Association.
After a friend made her an offer she couldn’t refuse, she accepted a position of Executive Assistant to the President of a College in Atlanta.
